246 Queen
In 1960s Auckland, 246 Queen Street was a proud nexus of architectural vision, forward-looking fashion retail and urban sophistication. Now, it stands ready to make its bold return as a revitalised mid city icon. A contemporary vision for the building from architects Fearon Hay sees it once more becoming a sophisticated, design-led city building, illuminated by a bright and dynamic central light shaft.
In their approach to redesigning and restoring 246 Queen Street, architects Fearon Hay have seized the opportunity to return the building to its past glory as a mid city design icon. Strong, sophisticated materials including terrazzo and glass feature alongside the raw concrete of the base structure. A full renovation from developer Wilshire Group in collaboration with Fearon Hay will transform this central Queen Street location into a new high quality landmark for the city.
A mid town location
246 Queen Street is leading the regeneration of its mid city location. Popular amenities are nearby including High Street and Queen Street shopping, Lorne Street eateries and the open spaces of Albert Park. Transport is easy, with downtown ferry, rail and bus links only a 5 minute walk away. And the area will benefit from increased activity with the creation of the new City Rail Link, expected to open in 2024.
